Sample Lesson Plan
Volleyball
Time: 50 minutes
Students: 20
Unit: Volleyball
Activity: Volley
Equipment: 20 volleyballs
Objectives:
-
Students will be given the opportunity to practice body control and
movement will participating in the activity of volleyball.
-
Students will be given the opportunity to participate in physical activity.
-
Students will be given the opportunity to engage in learning while participating
in a social setting.
-
Students will be given the opportunity to practice an individual skill
required to participate in the game of volleyball.
Introduction(5 mintues)
-
Welcome students and inform them of the days activities.
Warm Up(7 minute)
-
Engage the class in some sort of tag game, any one will do. Tag games
are fun, get everyone active, easy to coordinate and ensure all students
are warmed up.
Activity 1(10 minutes)
-
Each student will be given a ball.
-
Students will be required to find a space on the floor where they
will be able to toss the ball in the air to themselves and take about three
steps without banging in to another student.

Students will practice tossing the ball high in the air to themselves
and then getting in position under the ball to perform a volley.
-
Progress this activity by eventually getting students to volley the ball
directly in the air to themselves.
Activity 2 (10 minutes)
-
Place students in groups of 5, and break the group in to a group of 3 and
one of 2.
-
Have the groups line up a few meters apart from one another with group
members one behind the other.
-
The group will have one ball amongst them and it will begin in the group
with three members. The first person in the group will toss the ball to
the other group and will then run to go the end of the other line. The
first person in each line here after, will volley the ball to the opposite
line before running to join in the end of the opposite line.

This cycle will continue in sequence. If the rally is broken students may
simply begin the cycle again.
Activity 3 (13 minutes)

Students will be placed in teams of 3.
-
They will be placed on one side of a badminton/volleyball court with another
team on the other side.
-
The two teams will engage in a modified game where students are only permitted
to volley the ball. All other rules are the same except the only method
of contact permitted is the volley.
Closure (5 minutes)
Recap class activities, answer any questions or concerns, and brief
class on next day's activities.
