Holy Spirit High Remembers Frank Deacy

Students and staff paid tribute to the late Frank Deacy, who passed away suddenly on November 9, 2008, at the age of 63.

Originally from Galway , Ireland , Mr. Deacy moved to Newfoundland in 1971. He was a teacher at Holy Spirit High School and taught a variety of courses there during the 1980’s. He was the first ever recipient of the Honorary Falcon Award from the school.

Founder and President of the CBS Baymen Rugby Club, and one of the founding members of the Newfoundland and Labrador Rugby Union, he was named Coach of the Year by the Town of CBS and was inducted into the CBS Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. He was also inducted into the Newfoundland Sports Hall of Fame in October 2005.

Mr. Deacy was an avid rugby coach, but he was also an artist who donated many prints for auction at various fund-raising events around CBS, including the school’s Annual Cabaret and Auction.

Mr. Deacy continued to be a strong supporter of the school and its athletic program up to the time of his sudden and unexpected death. Student Council President Jamie Warren presented an original watercolor by Mr. Deacy to Principal Scott Crocker. It is proudly on display in the school.
